Training Package for Businesses
Objective: Our training package is designed to provide basic training and experience for a business to do safe, quality CNG/LPG systems installations. Businesses with this training and using recommended CNG/LPG kits.
Methods: Our training package includes training of 2 or 3 affiliated technicians in all aspects of CNG fuel system installation and maintenance. Students are trained in sets so they can help each other during the training as well as with later installations. Our instructor will train in your shop so he can provide suggestions on your facilities, equipment, tools, and supplies which will enable efficient and quality work.
The heart of our training is the installation of our standard Europe Gas sequential injection and HD Diesel CNG fuel systems, however instruction will also address differences in several common systems and key parts.
Most of the training is student hands-on installation. After the trainees are oriented in the components of the kit and the installation process they will be expected to take the lead in the entire installation (with full-time instructor coaching).
Our training includes:
• 6-8 hours of prerequisite study with supplied materials;
• 2-4 hours discussing the essentials of safe and secure tank mounting; critical positioning of injectors; options for locating the fuel receptacle; and use of high pressure fittings;
• 15-25 hours (depending on how much related prior experience the students have) installing a complete CNG system in a vehicle including the tank, fuel lines, kit, and tuning the engine;
• Discussion of common problems to avoid as well as tricks of the trade;
• Review of what was learned by the trainees;
• A list of CNG vendors with common components, parts, fittings, and cylinders.
• As needed, telephone consultation during subsequent installations.
Trainees should plan 3 to 4 days for the basic training (depending on how quickly they complete the installation).
Prerequisites: At least one of the trainees must be an experienced automotive technician. In addition, since Utah law states that a CNG retrofit vehicle may not be operated until it is inspected and certified safe in accordance with relevant standards by a CSA America CNG Fuel System Inspector, we also highly recommend that a trainee be (or soon becomes) a CSA Certified CNG Fuel System Inspector. For more information on the CSA certification program click on this link (“http://shop.csa.ca/en/canada/personnel-certification-programs/compressed-natural-gas-cng-fuel-system-inspector-certification/invt/2703393”).
The business is to have a vehicle to which the students can add a CNG system. It also needs a tank with appropriate valve and brackets and all equipment, tools, and supplies needed for a complete installation. A list of supplies and other helpful shop items needed will be identified upon registration.
Trainees are to satisfactorily complete our designated study.
We require no exclusive agreements or long-term commitments.
Fee: The training package fee $5200 (for 2 or 3 students) plus instructor travel expenses* and must be paid in full upon registration. Included in the fee is one CNG engine kit and all other components for a complete CNG conversion except the tank (including valve and brackets) and incidental shop supplies. Also available is CNG Specialty-Tool Kits including 21 essential specialty tools and 14 consumable items not common to automotive shops. This kit includes a heavy duty tool box for convenient storage and use of the items as needed for conversions, and will save technicians weeks of shopping time and days of labor on every CNG system installation. Tool Kit can be included for $1200.
